Villandry Contracting knocked it out of the park for us. We used them to completely remodel our kitchen, as well as repair a roof and make a few changes to our dining room, family room and finished basement. From the initial design and planning, to the meat of the reconstruction itself, and then the finishing touches, Fernando and his team were fantastic. They came in on time, and on budget! I have never worked with a more organized and thorough contracting Company, and they made the process fun by being so on top of things for us. This is my fifth or sixth renovation project dating back 18 years in several locations, and this was by far the best in so many ways. The workmanship is outstanding and the attention to detail and follow through by everyone at VCI is exceptional! VCI truly exhibits "World Class Service". Not too long ago, Villandry Contracting completed an addition on my home. From the start of this project - the planning and designing - to the finish of it, I have been nothing less than pleased with the professionalism and workmanship displayed by all personnel connected to this company. Fernando Carreiro, the owner, gave his personal attention to this project. He inspected each phase of the building and connected with me to be sure we were both on the same page and that all was going well. The workmen were always on time and focused on their jobs, and their craftsmanship was of the highest quality. In all instances they conducted themselves as professionals. They were respectful and thoughtful as they did their work on my home. Each day just before they left, all materials were neatly put away and the area in which they worked was organized and cleaned. Fernando: As you know, my house was in much need of re-staining. Recognizing that there were also issues with water damage and rot, we spoke about having the house sided. We first looked at vinyl, then cedar impressions. After much thought and many discussions with you, we decided to go with a relatively new product - Hardi Plank. My wife and I are extremely satisfied with the final product. As with any home project, you experience 'scope creep'. The siding turned into replacing some fascia boards, then gutters....and finally a few windows that had lost the insulating gas. The workmanship of all your crews was exceptional. No shortcuts were taken and as always, the work was done on consecutive days allowing for a relatively short project timeline. Villandry Contracting: It was a pleasure working with an organized and professional team. We love our new spacious backyard with patio, stairs, and platform. We can finally entertain and not have quests standing on the driveway. On the first meeting with Sean I had a feeling it was match. He listened to my ideas and suggested options to make my ideas realistic. After a few meetings with him and discussions with Dave over the phone I saw Dave's plans. They were exactly what I was trying to get across with words. Dave's plans were easy to understand and made the backyard look better than it actually did before construction. Once the project started Villandry was there when they said they would be and routine follow ups from Dave, Sean, and Fernando. The bottom line the project was completed when they said it would be....in time for Memorial Day. How often do you see that from a Contractor...lol. We are very pleased with our new kitchen and bath! Things started off well when Fernando came for an estimate and remembered everything we said. We were impressed with David's meticulous plans and precise knowledge about the details of our project, which assured us the project would progress smoothly. There were never any surprises about costs or work that would be done. Crew members were here every day during our 3-month project, and everyone we met was friendly and attentive to our requests. Fernando, Sean, and Kerry all worked tirelessly to ensure we were pleased with the work; they were all quick to respond to our concerns and questions. Even after the project was finished and the final payments made, VCI and the plumbers came back to fix a faulty radiator valve. AS POSTED ON ANGIE's LIST ("A" RATINGS ACROSS THE BOARD): This project went incredibly smoothly thanks to Villandry Contracting. Their estimate was detailed and allowed us to really understand when costs changed. They started the job when they told us they would, completed it in a timely manner, and had someone at our house every day (except maybe toward the end when we were waiting for fixtures, etc.). They worked with us to set up a temporary kitchen (which was actually workable) in the basement. Their work was impressive, from the removal of structural walls and the installation of steel beams to the finer carpentry work. They had very good input when we ran into problems and were helpful at resolving them with us at a reasonable cost. I can't say enough good things about them. We were extremely happy with the quality of the project and with the experience of working with you and I just wanted to write and let you know that you completely spoiled us! We are working with a contractor who has worked with my husband's family for years, and while he's a very nice person, as a contractor he's no where near the caliber of you and your company. Your company came highly recommended and my experience has borne that out. Villandry Contracting has been first-rate, from beginning to end. What first impressed me was the care and detail that went into the estimate your foreman provided. Then, when the actual work began, your men - Chris and Tim are the two I know, though there were others - were extremely hard working. They arrived early in the morning, explained what they were going to do, were reassuring about the unexpected developments that occurred, and left each evening with the place in order. Now that the job is complete and the structural problems solved, there are not only no signs of any repair, the house looks better than ever! Of course, no one wants to hear that a "simple" two-day job has turned into something bigger. Yet, when your men discovered that the wood rot had extended further than anyone could have known beforehand, they handled the situation quickly and professionally. No matter how complex or simple our questions might have been, he always responded knowingly and respectively. Clearly, Tony has high standards. He is a skilled craftsman who does excellent work which shows in every aspect of the construction, from the demolition and framing to the finished details. We are impressed by his work ethic as well as his end results. He also worked well with his own crew, always followed through on the subcontractors' work, making sure they, too, met his standards, and kept straight all the hundreds of details that go into a renovation! I want to thank you for the outstanding work you and your crew did remodeling our apartment. From the moment we began working with you in considering the redesign of our kitchen/dining room and living room we were impressed with the thoroughness of your response to our ideas. Field Supervisor Fernando Carreiro was very professional in working with us and the sub-contractors. We were very impressed with how he demanded the very best work and materials from them. The ideas he suggested regarding modifications to the original design created a far better result than would otherwise have happened. He is very knowledgeable about all phases of construction from the rough work to the finish. Foreman Sean Gardner was always concerned that the work being done was to our satisfaction. We were very impressed with the quality of the finish work that he and his team completed. These men, Michael Cassaza, Paul Synan and Sopheak Taulk, were very efficient and expert in the work they did. Mike and Paul did excellent work redoing the roof-line for the expansion of our kitchen. Sean and the whole team quickly reframed the kitchen walls and ceilings to minimize exposure to the weather. They were very meticulous in completing the finish work to our satisfaction. They are fine craftsmen. All of the sub-contractors and the suppliers of cabinets, counters, appliances, sink and faucet, air-conditioning and lighting were very easy to work with. They all did their part of the project to our complete satisfaction. This is the fourth major project that your company has done in our two-family house. Thank you again for the spectacular result. I am not in the habit of writing letters to contractors; I am more often cursing them! However, for the first time in my life I found it a pleasure working with one. Fernando was the utmost professional. He listened to what we wanted, he gave advice and his option when we asked for it; he told us what could not be done and why, as well as offering possible alterations and solutions. In addition, he acted as our advocate when he thought some subcontractors were not dealing with us correctly. On at least one occasion, we were not even aware (due to my ignorance, of course) that someone may have been taking advantage of us. On all times he resolved the issue in our favor. We actually felt comfortable having the work done, or most of it, while we were on vacation. That's another first!!! When we returned, all work had been finished on time as promised. How often does a homeowner who has had a major addition and renovation project write a letter to their contractor where they can state not only thank you for job well done, but also freely offer the following compliments: From the very beginning: Villandry Contracting did the work when they said they would. Villandry Contracting performed the work at the price they said they would. Villandry Contracting itemized and reviewed every change (and there were many) using job change orders. The JCO's clearly explained the work and additional costs. The subsequent work was performed exactly as the order described. Villandry Contracting crews were capable, professional, thorough, and clean. Villandry Contracting attended to all punch list items until they were all done. When friends visit and see the addition, talk often turns to their own experiences with their home renovations. The war stories of contractors not showing up, shoddy work, etc almost always seem to enter the discussion. Imagine their surprise when we tell them, that quite the contrary, our experience was free from any of these situations. We are thrilled with the final product! There are so many things to thank you, Fernando, and the crew for, it's hard to know where to start. But here's some that come to mind: 1) Design sensitivity. You did a great job designing a dormer that maintains the character of our bungalow, and we thank you for this. The biggest compliment we get from people is, Gee, I can't even tell what you added 2) Fabulous workmanship. The new work feels as solid as the original. The subs did fine work, especially the roofer and the plasterers (there were so many nooks and angles in that wacky little room under the gable…). We especially appreciate Fernando and the crew's attention to detail on the stairway and trim. 3) Responsiveness. In a project like this, there's always bound to be surprises that come up along the way – part delays, scheduling issues, etc. We appreciate the way you and Fernando quickly responded to our concerns and would patiently answer my questions we had. 4) Thoughtfulness and professionalism. These words certainly describe you and anyone on your crew. But we'd like to especially single out Fernando as the foreman on the project. He was a pleasure to work with, personally and professionally. He made us feel like he cared about the success of this project as much as we did, down to every last picky detail. He had on-side design suggestions that have greatly increased our enjoyment of the upstairs (e.g., adding skylights, changing the layout in the bathroom, deciding how to lay the tile, or what kind of light fixture to put in the hall). Many times he went above and beyond the call of duty (e.g., salvaging that gumwood banister for us from another project, so it would match the woodwork downstairs). He always treated our house with respect, and he demanded the same from the crew and subs – it wasn't just a jobsite. I have been composing parts of this letter in my mind since the day your company began work on our third floor renovation. Every step of the way it has been a wonderful experience working with you, Fernando and the rest of the crew. Integrity, craftsmanship, professionalism, thoroughness, service, friendliness you epitomize these traits. I want you to know that your business is nearly unique in these times. Lots of people can raise a roof, put up exterior and interior walls, build a balcony, create a bathroom, install windows and skylights and so on (all tasks completed beautifully on this job!). It is the manner in which your people accomplish this work that is extraordinary! Beginning and completing the job on time, showing up for work every day, keeping the worksite (our still occupied home) neat and orderly, checking in with me, responding immediately to questions, concerns, requests, and taking great care with each step of the process…these are (unfortunately) unusual compliments to pay to a construction crew. We feel very fortunate to have had VCI as our builder. Fernando Carreiro is a remarkable young man. He is, first of all, a very skilled craftsman, taking pride in doing a job thoroughly, carefully and with his full attention on each detail. Several of his on-site suggestions, like the conversion to gas heat and the subsequent removal of the chimneys, made all the difference in the new bedrooms. His sensible advice and willingness to discuss each decision with me made this potentially stressful construction phase an actual pleasure. Fernando's professionalism is also noteworthy. His years of experience have developed his insight into all sorts of decisions, from design to construction. He always communicated with me in a helpful and respectful way, offering advice and listening to my ideas and desires. I also observed his interactions with the rest of his crew and with all of the subcontractors and he treated them in the same way. You are indeed lucky to have this talented and loyal man with your company. I have never met anyone who spoke of their construction company and the people that are the construction company with the warmth and gratitude that I feel toward you, Dave, and Fernando and the crew. Now that the dust has settled and we're pretty much back in shape, Steve and I wanted to formally thank you and VCI for a job well done. Wee are thoroughly enjoying our expanded kitchen, and the mudroom and new bath already make us wonder how we could have waited so long to add on to the house. After hearing horror stories of construction projects gone awry and contractors who don't show for days at a time, we realize we made the right choice in selecting you as our contractor. Throughout the project we were impressed with the VCI work crew. Jim arrived every day, cheerful and raring to go. His eagerness to accommodate our wishes was much appreciated. His manner with the kids, always taking the time to answer their questions about the work going on and especially being ready with a few sporting tips for Mike, made him a favorite with all threw and made me feel very comfortable with him being in charge of things. Leo's quite, hardworking demeanor should also be complimented. On time every day, willingly doing whatever job he was assigned, and obviously giving his best, he impressed us both. During the last week of the project Peter and John carried on the work in the friendly and competent style we had come to expect from VCI. In addition, the electrical work done by Ricky and the plumbing by Paul was done quickly, neatly and pleasantly. I would not hesitate to have anyone of these men working in my home again, as their work and their attitude towards me and the kids was always without reproach. Villandry Contracting knocked it out of the park for us. We used them to completely remodel our kitchen, as well as repair a roof and make a few changes to our dining room, family room and finished basement. From the initial design and planning, to the meat of the reconstruction itself, and then the finishing touches, Fernando and his team were fantastic. They came in on time, and on budget! I have never worked with a more organized and thorough contracting Company, and they made the process fun by being so on top of things for us. This is my fifth or sixth renovation project dating back 18 years in several locations, and this was by far the best in so many ways. Not too long ago, Villandry Contracting completed an addition on my home. From the start of this project - the planning and designing - to the finish of it, I have been nothing less than pleased with the professionalism and workmanship displayed by all personnel connected to this company. Fernando Carreiro, the owner, gave his personal attention to this project. He inspected each phase of the building and connected with me to be sure we were both on the same page and that all was going well. The workmen were always on time and focused on their jobs, and their craftsmanship was of the highest quality. In all instances they conducted themselves as professionals. They were respectful and thoughtful as they did their work on my home. Each day just before they left, all materials were neatly put away and the area in which they worked was organized and cleaned. Fernando: As you know, my house was in much need of re-staining. Recognizing that there were also issues with water damage and rot, we spoke about having the house sided. We first looked at vinyl, then cedar impressions. After much thought and many discussions with you, we decided to go with a relatively new product - Hardi Plank. My wife and I are extremely satisfied with the final product. As with any home project, you experience 'scope creep'. The siding turned into replacing some fascia boards, then gutters....and finally a few windows that had lost the insulating gas. The workmanship of all your crews was exceptional. No shortcuts were taken and as always, the work was done on consecutive days allowing for a relatively short project timeline. Villandry Contracting: It was a pleasure working with an organized and professional team. We love our new spacious backyard with patio, stairs, and platform. We can finally entertain and not have quests standing on the driveway. On the first meeting with Sean I had a feeling it was match. He listened to my ideas and suggested options to make my ideas realistic. After a few meetings with him and discussions with Dave over the phone I saw Dave's plans. They were exactly what I was trying to get across with words. Dave's plans were easy to understand and made the backyard look better than it actually did before construction. Once the project started Villandry was there when they said they would be and routine follow ups from Dave, Sean, and Fernando. The bottom line the project was completed when they said it would be....in time for Memorial Day. How often do you see that from a Contractor...lol. We are very pleased with our new kitchen and bath! Things started off well when Fernando came for an estimate and remembered everything we said. We were impressed with David's meticulous plans and precise knowledge about the details of our project, which assured us the project would progress smoothly. There were never any surprises about costs or work that would be done. Crew members were here every day during our 3-month project, and everyone we met was friendly and attentive to our requests. Fernando, Sean, and Kerry all worked tirelessly to ensure we were pleased with the work; they were all quick to respond to our concerns and questions. Even after the project was finished and the final payments made, VCI and the plumbers came back to fix a faulty radiator valve. AS POSTED ON ANGIE's LIST ("A" RATINGS ACROSS THE BOARD): This project went incredibly smoothly thanks to Villandry Contracting. Their estimate was detailed and allowed us to really understand when costs changed. They started the job when they told us they would, completed it in a timely manner, and had someone at our house every day (except maybe toward the end when we were waiting for fixtures, etc.). They worked with us to set up a temporary kitchen (which was actually workable) in the basement. Their work was impressive, from the removal of structural walls and the installation of steel beams to the finer carpentry work. They had very good input when we ran into problems and were helpful at resolving them with us at a reasonable cost. I can't say enough good things about them. What first impressed me was the care and detail that went into the estimate your foreman provided. Then, when the actual work began, your men - Chris and Tim are the two I know, though there were others - were extremely hard working. They arrived early in the morning, explained what they were going to do, were reassuring about the unexpected developments that occurred, and left each evening with the place in order. Now that the job is complete and the structural problems solved, there are not only no signs of any repair, the house looks better than ever! Of course, no one wants to hear that a "simple" two-day job has turned into something bigger. Yet, when your men discovered that the wood rot had extended further than anyone could have known beforehand, they handled the situation quickly and professionally. He is a skilled craftsman who does excellent work which shows in every aspect of the construction, from the demolition and framing to the finished details. We are impressed by his work ethic as well as his end results. He also worked well with his own crew, always followed through on the subcontractors' work, making sure they, too, met his standards, and kept straight all the hundreds of details that go into a renovation! I want to thank you for the outstanding work you and your crew did remodeling our apartment. From the moment we began working with you in considering the redesign of our kitchen/dining room and living room we were impressed with the thoroughness of your response to our ideas. Field Supervisor Fernando Carreiro was very professional in working with us and the sub-contractors. We were very impressed with how he demanded the very best work and materials from them. The ideas he suggested regarding modifications to the original design created a far better result than would otherwise have happened. He is very knowledgeable about all phases of construction from the rough work to the finish. Foreman Sean Gardner was always concerned that the work being done was to our satisfaction. We were very impressed with the quality of the finish work that he and his team completed. These men, Michael Cassaza, Paul Synan and Sopheak Taulk, were very efficient and expert in the work they did. Mike and Paul did excellent work redoing the roof-line for the expansion of our kitchen. Sean and the whole team quickly reframed the kitchen walls and ceilings to minimize exposure to the weather. They were very meticulous in completing the finish work to our satisfaction. They are fine craftsmen. All of the sub-contractors and the suppliers of cabinets, counters, appliances, sink and faucet, air-conditioning and lighting were very easy to work with. They all did their part of the project to our complete satisfaction. This is the fourth major project that your company has done in our two-family house. Thank you again for the spectacular result. I am not in the habit of writing letters to contractors; I am more often cursing them! However, for the first time in my life I found it a pleasure working with one. Fernando was the utmost professional. He listened to what we wanted, he gave advice and his option when we asked for it; he told us what could not be done and why, as well as offering possible alterations and solutions. In addition, he acted as our advocate when he thought some subcontractors were not dealing with us correctly. On at least one occasion, we were not even aware (due to my ignorance, of course) that someone may have been taking advantage of us. On all times he resolved the issue in our favor. We actually felt comfortable having the work done, or most of it, while we were on vacation. That's another first!!! When we returned, all work had been finished on time as promised. More importantly the quality exceeded our hopes to say nothing of expectations. All debris had been removed, and it was reasonably broom clean. In short, all promises had been more than met, and we do not have a single thing to bitch about! Contractors are often regarded about the same as lawyers. Everyone it seems has their own horror story(ies) I do. Any and all work we have done in the future will be done by your company; hopefully by Fernando. Thanks to all of you for a great job and for returning my faith in the honesty of people and pride of work. If future clients are seeking references, please do not hesitate to use us. How often does a homeowner who has had a major addition and renovation project write a letter to their contractor where they can state not only thank you for job well done, but also freely offer the following compliments: From the very beginning: Villandry Contracting did the work when they said they would. Villandry Contracting performed the work at the price they said they would. Villandry Contracting itemized and reviewed every change (and there were many) using job change orders. The JCO's clearly explained the work and additional costs. The subsequent work was performed exactly as the order described. Villandry Contracting crews were capable, professional, thorough, and clean. Villandry Contracting attended to all punch list items until they were all done. When friends visit and see the addition, talk often turns to their own experiences with their home renovations. The war stories of contractors not showing up, shoddy work, etc almost always seem to enter the discussion. Imagine their surprise when we tell them, that quite the contrary, our experience was free from any of these situations. Teri and I feel extremely fortunate to have had such an experience, and your company and your approach to these big projects is the reason why. There are a couple of other kudos that are important to mention: Sean is the best carpenter and framer I have ever seen. Fernando is the most knowledgeable project foreman one could ever hope for. His depth of experience with so many different aspects of the job was pivotal to our getting things done the way we wanted them done. We are thrilled with the final product! There are so many things to thank you, Fernando, and the crew for, it's hard to know where to start. But here's some that come to mind: 1) Design sensitivity. You did a great job designing a dormer that maintains the character of our bungalow, and we thank you for this. The biggest compliment we get from people is, Gee, I can't even tell what you added 2) Fabulous workmanship. The new work feels as solid as the original. The subs did fine work, especially the roofer and the plasterers (there were so many nooks and angles in that wacky little room under the gable…). We especially appreciate Fernando and the crew's attention to detail on the stairway and trim. 3) Responsiveness. In a project like this, there's always bound to be surprises that come up along the way – part delays, scheduling issues, etc. We appreciate the way you and Fernando quickly responded to our concerns and would patiently answer my questions we had. 4) Thoughtfulness and professionalism. These words certainly describe you and anyone on your crew. But we'd like to especially single out Fernando as the foreman on the project. He was a pleasure to work with, personally and professionally. He made us feel like he cared about the success of this project as much as we did, down to every last picky detail. He had on-side design suggestions that have greatly increased our enjoyment of the upstairs (e.g., adding skylights, changing the layout in the bathroom, deciding how to lay the tile, or what kind of light fixture to put in the hall). Many times he went above and beyond the call of duty (e.g., salvaging that gumwood banister for us from another project, so it would match the woodwork downstairs). He always treated our house with respect, and he demanded the same from the crew and subs – it wasn't just a jobsite. I have been composing parts of this letter in my mind since the day your company began work on our third floor renovation. Every step of the way it has been a wonderful experience working with you, Fernando and the rest of the crew. Integrity, craftsmanship, professionalism, thoroughness, service, friendliness you epitomize these traits. I want you to know that your business is nearly unique in these times. Lots of people can raise a roof, put up exterior and interior walls, build a balcony, create a bathroom, install windows and skylights and so on (all tasks completed beautifully on this job!). It is the manner in which your people accomplish this work that is extraordinary! Beginning and completing the job on time, showing up for work every day, keeping the worksite (our still occupied home) neat and orderly, checking in with me, responding immediately to questions, concerns, requests, and taking great care with each step of the process…these are (unfortunately) unusual compliments to pay to a construction crew. We feel very fortunate to have had VCI as our builder. Fernando Carreiro is a remarkable young man. He is, first of all, a very skilled craftsman, taking pride in doing a job thoroughly, carefully and with his full attention on each detail. Several of his on-site suggestions, like the conversion to gas heat and the subsequent removal of the chimneys, made all the difference in the new bedrooms. His sensible advice and willingness to discuss each decision with me made this potentially stressful construction phase an actual pleasure. Fernando's professionalism is also noteworthy. His years of experience have developed his insight into all sorts of decisions, from design to construction. He always communicated with me in a helpful and respectful way, offering advice and listening to my ideas and desires. I also observed his interactions with the rest of his crew and with all of the subcontractors and he treated them in the same way. You are indeed lucky to have this talented and loyal man with your company. I have never met anyone who spoke of their construction company and the people that are the construction company with the warmth and gratitude that I feel toward you, Dave, and Fernando and the crew. We feel very blessed to have this beautiful new addition to our home and to have enjoyed our relationship with all of you so thoroughly. Now that the dust has settled and we're pretty much back in shape, Steve and I wanted to formally thank you and VCI for a job well done. Wee are thoroughly enjoying our expanded kitchen, and the mudroom and new bath already make us wonder how we could have waited so long to add on to the house. After hearing horror stories of construction projects gone awry and contractors who don't show for days at a time, we realize we made the right choice in selecting you as our contractor. Throughout the project we were impressed with the VCI work crew. Jim arrived every day, cheerful and raring to go. His eagerness to accommodate our wishes was much appreciated. His manner with the kids, always taking the time to answer their questions about the work going on and especially being ready with a few sporting tips for Mike, made him a favorite with all threw and made me feel very comfortable with him being in charge of things. Leo's quite, hardworking demeanor should also be complimented. On time every day, willingly doing whatever job he was assigned, and obviously giving his best, he impressed us both. During the last week of the project Peter and John carried on the work in the friendly and competent style we had come to expect from VCI. In addition, the electrical work done by Ricky and the plumbing by Paul was done quickly, neatly and pleasantly. I would not hesitate to have anyone of these men working in my home again, as their work and their attitude towards me and the kids was always without reproach.
