We have worked with Villandry Contracting and Fernando Carreiro on several home projects during the past 20 years and have been totally satisfied with every outcome. From a major addition to an attic clean-up to bathroom and kitchen remodels we've been impressed on every project with the one-one attention, responsiveness, overall workmanship and aherence to the highest standards. The Villandry group have always been willing to work with us as customers from conception, design and through construction to be sure that our requests and ideas have been met to our total satisfaction. They stand behind not only their own work, but also that of any subcontractor they use, with a clear message that the customer's satisfcation is paramount to them. Work schedules are maintained and met without a problem - no horror stories of "disappearing contractors" here. Not too long ago, Villandry Contracting completed an addition on my home. From the start of this project - the planning and designing - to the finish of it, I have been nothing less than pleased with the professionalism and workmanship displayed by all personnel connected to this company. Fernando Carreiro, the owner, gave his personal attention to this project. He inspected each phase of the building and connected with me to be sure we were both on the same page and that all was going well. The workmen were always on time and focused on their jobs, and their craftsmanship was of the highest quality. In all instances they conducted themselves as professionals. They were respectful and thoughtful as they did their work on my home. Each day just before they left, all materials were neatly put away and the area in which they worked was organized and cleaned. Kerry Moschella, the office manager, was never too busy to be attentive to my concerns. She was quick to research items needed and to help me make selections. Her pleasant disposition and willingness to accommodate was always appreciated. Each visitor to my home is filled with praise for not only the design of this new room but for the workmanship. I have used Villandry Contracting for 5 different projects over a 15 year period. Projects have ranged from window installation, deck addition, family room finish work, front entrance portico and lastly a total kitchen/ bathroom remodel. I have 100% confidence in the quality of their work, the professionalism of the employees and the fact that they stand by their work. The project ran on time and continuous once started. You worked on a remodeling project on our house a few years ago in Needham. We were extremely happy with the quality of the project and with the experience of working with you and I just wanted to write and let you know that you completely spoiled us! We have just moved to California and are doing a very small remodeling project to our home here and it has been NOTHING like working with Villandry. We are working with a contractor who has worked with my husband's family for years, and while he's a very nice person, as a contractor he's no where near the caliber of you and your company. The delays, unclear (and missing) communication, and in some cases substandard workmanship have been unbelievably frustrating -- especially since we know that projects don't have to be run this way! So thank you again for running such a wonderful business! I know we recommended you to friends in Arlington and they have been very happy working with you. If you ever want to expand into Southern California, please let us know!!! (Or if you happen to know any great contractors in the LA area, please let us know.) P.S. When we put our house in Needham on the market in April, we sold it in a flash for above the asking price (we had four offers the first weekend!) I am not in the habit of writing letters to contractors; I am more often cursing them! However, for the first time in my life I found it a pleasure working with one. Fernando was the utmost professional. He listened to what we wanted, he gave advice and his option when we asked for it; he told us what could not be done and why, as well as offering possible alterations and solutions. In addition, he acted as our advocate when he thought some subcontractors were not dealing with us correctly. On at least one occasion, we were not even aware (due to my ignorance, of course) that someone may have been taking advantage of us. On all times he resolved the issue in our favor. We actually felt comfortable having the work done, or most of it, while we were on vacation. That's another first!!! When we returned, all work had been finished on time as promised. More importantly the quality exceeded our hopes to say nothing of expectations. All debris had been removed, and it was reasonably broom clean. In short, all promises had been more than met, and we do not have a single thing to bitch about! Contractors are often regarded about the same as lawyers. Everyone it seems has their own horror story(ies) I do. Any and all work we have done in the future will be done by your company; hopefully by Fernando. Thanks to all of you for a great job and for returning my faith in the honesty of people and pride of work. If future clients are seeking references, please do not hesitate to use us. How often does a homeowner who has had a major addition and renovation project write a letter to their contractor where they can state not only thank you for job well done, but also freely offer the following compliments: From the very beginning: Villandry Contracting did the work when they said they would. Villandry Contracting performed the work at the price they said they would. Villandry Contracting itemized and reviewed every change (and there were many) using job change orders. The JCO's clearly explained the work and additional costs. The subsequent work was performed exactly as the order described. Villandry Contracting crews were capable, professional, thorough, and clean. Villandry Contracting attended to all punch list items until they were all done. When friends visit and see the addition, talk often turns to their own experiences with their home renovations. The war stories of contractors not showing up, shoddy work, etc almost always seem to enter the discussion. Imagine their surprise when we tell them, that quite the contrary, our experience was free from any of these situations. Teri and I feel extremely fortunate to have had such an experience, and your company and your approach to these big projects is the reason why. There are a couple of other kudos that are important to mention: Sean is the best carpenter and framer I have ever seen. Fernando is the most knowledgeable project foreman one could ever hope for. His depth of experience with so many different aspects of the job was pivotal to our getting things done the way we wanted them done. Not only was the work done when he said it would be I was surprised by the cleanliness of the entire project. The quality of the work is second to none and my wife and I are thrilled with the decision that we made to hire your company to do this work, it was worth the wait. I have been composing parts of this letter in my mind since the day your company began work on our third floor renovation. Every step of the way it has been a wonderful experience working with you, Fernando and the rest of the crew. Integrity, craftsmanship, professionalism, thoroughness, service, friendliness you epitomize these traits. I want you to know that your business is nearly unique in these times. Lots of people can raise a roof, put up exterior and interior walls, build a balcony, create a bathroom, install windows and skylights and so on (all tasks completed beautifully on this job!). It is the manner in which your people accomplish this work that is extraordinary! Beginning and completing the job on time, showing up for work every day, keeping the worksite (our still occupied home) neat and orderly, checking in with me, responding immediately to questions, concerns, requests, and taking great care with each step of the process…these are (unfortunately) unusual compliments to pay to a construction crew. We feel very fortunate to have had VCI as our builder. Fernando Carreiro is a remarkable young man. He is, first of all, a very skilled craftsman, taking pride in doing a job thoroughly, carefully and with his full attention on each detail. Several of his on-site suggestions, like the conversion to gas heat and the subsequent removal of the chimneys, made all the difference in the new bedrooms. His sensible advice and willingness to discuss each decision with me made this potentially stressful construction phase an actual pleasure. Fernando's professionalism is also noteworthy. His years of experience have developed his insight into all sorts of decisions, from design to construction. He always communicated with me in a helpful and respectful way, offering advice and listening to my ideas and desires. I also observed his interactions with the rest of his crew and with all of the subcontractors and he treated them in the same way. You are indeed lucky to have this talented and loyal man with your company. I have never met anyone who spoke of their construction company and the people that are the construction company with the warmth and gratitude that I feel toward you, Dave, and Fernando and the crew. We feel very blessed to have this beautiful new addition to our home and to have enjoyed our relationship with all of you so thoroughly. You and Fernando have been thoughtful, kind and friendly, especially to our six-year-old daughter, and for this we also thank you. Your personal attention to our project, from going over the 12-page contract with me, line by line, four (or five?) times, through your late night trip to our house when the heat shut down are ample evidence of your integrity and caring. Please do give our names to prospective customers so that we have the opportunity to rave about the quality of VCI's work and the quality of the human beings and relationships behind the work. Now that the dust has settled and we're pretty much back in shape, Steve and I wanted to formally thank you and VCI for a job well done. Wee are thoroughly enjoying our expanded kitchen, and the mudroom and new bath already make us wonder how we could have waited so long to add on to the house. The quality of work is evident to everyone who's received a tour of the new quarters, and especially to us. After hearing horror stories of construction projects gone awry and contractors who don't show for days at a time, we realize we made the right choice in selecting you as our contractor. Throughout the project we were impressed with the VCI work crew. Jim arrived every day, cheerful and raring to go. His eagerness to accommodate our wishes was much appreciated. His manner with the kids, always taking the time to answer their questions about the work going on and especially being ready with a few sporting tips for Mike, made him a favorite with all threw and made me feel very comfortable with him being in charge of things. Leo's quite, hardworking demeanor should also be complimented. On time every day, willingly doing whatever job he was assigned, and obviously giving his best, he impressed us both. During the last week of the project Peter and John carried on the work in the friendly and competent style we had come to expect from VCI. In addition, the electrical work done by Ricky and the plumbing by Paul was done quickly, neatly and pleasantly. I would not hesitate to have anyone of these men working in my home again, as their work and their attitude towards me and the kids was always without reproach. Finally, Dave, your daily progress checks, your willingness to discuss all aspects of the project in detail and to our satisfaction, your efforts to quickly correct any problems, and your easy accessibility made us feel comfortable that VCI would stand behind their work and that we would not have to deal with any disasters. We both would like to thank you, Pete, and Kevin for the wonderful job you all did on our new addition. The work was done in the time estimated, the disruption was minimal considering the extent of changes we were making, and the outcome has been beyond our expectations. Being novices at home improvement, we were not quite sure what to expect and everything turned out well due to your good organization and execution. We were also pleased that a lot of peripheral jobs, not related to the addition, were done for us at reasonable cost and cheerfully.
